Transport Mobilité Solidaire
The Arles region of south-eastern France is lacking in socially responsible transport services. The Transport Mobilité Solidaire non-profit organization is a co-founder of the Gessaie socially responsible garage in Arles, the only socially responsible garage here. To help remedy the situation, a decision was taken with the local authorities to transform the maintenance shop in Istres into a social responsible garage. An initial donation enabled operations to begin, but further investments are needed if the garage business is to develop. Foundation support will enable the garage to invest in a car lift.
Transport Mobilité Solidaire develops access to the transport capabilities needed for social inclusion, by providing bikes or cars, running small-scale public transport services, providing individual transport assistance, and running road safety operations.
Beneficiaries are referred to the garage by various organizations, and meet the transport advisor to analyse transport needs and capabilities. If appropriate, the beneficiary will meet the mechanic, who issues a quote on the basis of a vehicle diagnosis, for validation by the manager and the motorist. Payment terms are negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Vehicle maintenance problems may be addressed by offering instruction in basic maintenance. If the vehicle requires too extensive repair work, an alternative solution may be sought. The motorist may be directed to a micro-credit organization such as Créa-sol. Transport advisors will help the beneficiary submit the necessary application. And the non-profit organization may also offer loans to beneficiaries having an employment contract, and track the loan repayment process.share this project
