Improving mobility to help young people with sensorimotor disabilities take part in sports activities
Comité Départemental Handisport d’Ille et Vilaine
The Committee’s statistics for 2012/2013 show an increase in the number of licence-holding sports practitioners but an imbalance in the age pyramid, with under-18s accounting for less than 10% of the total. Analysis demonstrates that the question of getting to and from sports venues is an obstacle. Yet the regular, supervised and safe practice of sport improves the health, autonomy and well-being of children in physical, social and cognitive terms alike. As such, the following action plan is envisioned:
– the discovery of a new world of locomotion and an adapted sports activity: tricycle riding
– the acquisition of a vehicle for people with reduced mobility, also used to transport bulky sports equipment including sports wheelchairs, archery targets and handbikes.
