The bike production workshop
ALIE (Association Locale d’Insertion par l’Economique)
The town of Saint-Denis de la Réunion is reviewing the implementation of several innovative means of transport to respond to the needs of users, including reserved-lane public transport, cable transportation, and bikes. The aim is to roll out sustainable urban solutions at a reasonable cost.
The bike production workshop was co-developed by the local ALIE organisation (integration through economic activity) and a social entrepreneur. This last has created an innovative vehicle, half way between bike and car, featuring electric power steering and a range of 60 km and travelling at between 20 km/h and 40 km/h. Costing the equivalent of a mid-range bicycle, the sustainable vehicle is delivered in kit form.
The aim is to set up an integration project enabling people to create a workshop and assemble the vehicles. The workshop will develop their skills in mechanics and electricity, which are highly sought-after expertise sets on the island.share this project
